[PPV Recap] ‘WWF WrestleMania VIII’ – Hogan vs. Sid, Savage vs. Flair, Piper vs. Hart

Date: April 5, 1992
Venue: The Hoosier Dome (Indianapolis, IN)
Commentators: Gorilla Monsoon & Bobby ‘The Brain’ Heenan

WrestleMania VIII features a “double main event” as Ric Flair defends the WWF Championship against Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan takes on Sid Justice in Hogan’s “final match”. Lots of quotations going on here folks. Also on the show Roddy Piper defends the Intercontinental Championship against Bret Hart, a newly babyface Undertaker faces off against former friend Jake Roberts, and much more! I don’t think I’ve watched this since the live PPV and I was five back then, so let’s see how it holds up now.

VIDEO: Batista Returns to ‘RAW’, Sends Message to Triple H

The planned 70th birthday for ‘The Nature Boy’ Ric Flair turned sour at the end of RAW last night as the returning Batista decided to send a message to Triple H by beating up their mentor backstage before he could enjoy the festivities. Presumably this is to set up Triple H vs. Batista at WrestleMania, the match that Batista has previously stated was the only match he would return for. Interesting that he’s coming back as a heel too; WWE isn’t even going to flirt with the babyface version of Batista after how his last return in 2014 turned out. I’m actually pretty bummed that I missed this, but thankfully YouTube had my, and everyone else’s, back for this one.

Roman Reigns Announced for ‘RAW’ This Monday

WWE has reported that former multi-time World Champion Roman Reigns will be making an appearance this Monday on RAW, four-plus months after announcing that he was taking a leave of absence to battle leukemia. He is expected to be in attendance to give the fans an update on his fight, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he interacted with his former Shield brothers, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose, in some capacity as well. Despite my own feelings on ‘The Big Dog’, I’m glad he appears to be doing well and is on the road to recovery.

Monday’s RAW is also slated to be the 70th birthday celebration for ‘The Nature Boy’ Ric Flair so it looks like WWE has one helluva show lined up. Will you be watching live?

[PPV Recap] ‘WCW Uncensored 1995’ – Hogan vs. Vader, Nasty Boys vs. Harlem Heat, WHY DID I DO THIS TO MYSELF

Date: March 19, 1995
Venue: Tupelo Coliseum (Tupelo, MS)
Commentators: Tony Schiavone & Bobby ‘The Brain’ Heenan

The first-ever Uncensored set the tone for the soon to be annual PPV event, featuring a whole host of matches considered ‘unsanctioned’ by WCW. That meant no rules, no mercy, and NO TITLES ON THE LINE. It was a cool idea on paper but this is WCW we’re talking about so the execution left a lot to be desired. Like “a lot” a lot. I’ve never watched this one before after reading so much bad press around it but you know what? I’m game to give it a shot. What’s the worst that could-wait Jim Duggan is competing in a MARTIAL ARTS match? And this is the debut of THE RENEGADE? Oh no. Oh no oh no oh no.

Champion Roll-Call

  • WCW World Heavyweight Champion: Hulk Hogan
  • WCW United States Champion: Vader
  • WCW Television Champion: Arn Anderson
  • WCW World Tag Team Champions: Harlem Heat (Booker T & Stevie Ray)

The war between Sting and Big Van Vader continues into 1993 as the two headline WCW’s first PPV of 1993. It’s not just any match, however, it’s a ‘White Castle of Fear’ match. What does that mean exactly? Strap match. It’s a strap match. Also on the show The British Bulldog makes his debut, Ric Flair makes his PPV re-debut, and Maxx Payne of all people gets a shot at the United States Championship.
